Alaska News:
HOLADAY-PARKS and Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Extreme Makeover Home Edition traveled across all 50 states to build homes for families in need and what better place to start than at the top— North Pole, Alaska! HOLADAY-PARKS was proud to team with Landmark, Inc. (and over 1000 volunteers) and provide the project’s sheet metal fabrication and installation. The HOLADAY-PARKS team put in more than 1060 hours to help Betty Rogers, a single mother with a family of 13, realize her dream of a new home.
The family was living in a two-bedroom, 900 sq ft home that was literally falling apart around them. The walls were separating at the seams, windows were broken and the water heater would only supply enough heat for one warm shower. The tiny house didn’t even have insulation, which is a major threat when temperatures get as low as -60° in the winter!
Jerry Mustard, Engineering Manager at HOLADAY-PARKS Alaska Division remarked, “Project management was very challenging on this project. Everything had to be coordinated and planned out ahead of time so that things went together quickly and correctly the first time. We made CAD drawings to show relative locations of the ducts, walls, and floor joists so we could find the problem areas before we even went out to the jobsite.” HOLADAY-PARKS had between 25–30 people at the project for two nights until 2:00 in the morning during the one week building frenzy.
“I knew that one of the greatest challenges on this project would be to get the design and installation of the ventilation systems done right. After I talked with HOLADAY-PARKS I found they not only had a passion for helping in the community but also a commitment to personal workmanship. What a great team effort! Thanks HOLADAY-PARKS!”
